Colonel David W. May

Colonel David W. May commands Volk Field Air National Guard Base, Camp Douglas, Wisconsin, which includes the Combat Readiness Training Center, the 128th Air Control Squadron, and the 126th Weather Flight. He is responsible for all aspects of mission performance of these three diverse organizations. The CRTC at Volk Field is the premier training resource in the ANG managing a 2300 acre installation, over 12,000 square miles of Spacial Activity Airspace, and an Air to Ground Gunnery Range. The Air Control Squadron and Weather Flight maintain qualifications and readiness for worldwide combat deployment.
Colonel May received his commission through the Air Force Officer Training School, Maxwell AFB, Alabama, in August, 1996. He has held a variety of command and staff positions at the wing, combatant command, Air Staff, and Joint Force Headquarters level. His staff tours include HQ US Air Force, the Pentagon, HQ Air Force Cyber Command (Provisional), US Transportation Command, and the Joint Force Headquarters of the Wisconsin National Guard. Prior to his current assignment, he was the Director of Manpower and Personnel for the Joint Staff, Wisconsin National Guard, Madison, Wisconsin.

Dennis Winters is Chief Economist, Director of the Bureau of Workforce Information and Technical Support, and Labor Market Information Director for the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. He is a nationally recognized expert on human resource challenges in the competitive global economic environment. He has presented on the increasing value of talent to numerous audiences, including the Milken Global Conference, the Society of Business Editors and Writers, the National Association of State Legislators, and the Council of Chief State School Officers. A graduate of UW Madison and Colorado State University, Dennis has been a consulting economist for over thirty years including senior positions at Wharton Econometric Forecasting Associates (WEFA), DRI / McGraw-Hill (now combined into IHS Global Insights). He was Vice President and Director of Research for NorthStar Economics.

Volk Field Air National Guard Base

Volk Field is one of only four Air National Guard Combat Readiness Training Centers in the nation, and the only one that does not share its airfield with a civilian airport. In addition to its primary mission it is also an Aerial Port of Embarkation.

Volk Field is entirely owned by the ANG. It consists of 2,300 acres adjacent to Interstate Highway 90/94, north of the Village of Camp Douglas. The single runway is oriented 09/27 and is 150 feet wide and 9,000 feet long with 1,000 foot overruns. The runway can accommodate all military aircraft and has both precision and non-precision navigational approaches along with a tower and radar approach control. There are 40 acres of aircraft parking available.

Wisconsin Army National Guard

The Wisconsin Army National Guard is made up of approximately 7,700 soldiers including a headquarters staff in Madison and four major commands located throughout 67 Wisconsin communities: the 32nd “Red Arrow” Infantry Brigade Combat Team headquartered at Camp Douglas; 64th Troop Command, Madison; 157th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, Milwaukee; and the 426th Regiment (RTI) Regional Training Institute, Fort McCoy.

Danielle Jones, Director, Sector Strategy Development, Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation

Danielle Jones is a Director of Sector Strategy Development in the Division of Sector Strategy Development at WEDC.  Her portfolio includes Forest Products, Advanced Materials and Composites, Military and Defense Relations, Telecommunications, Financial Services and Mining.


As a director for sector strategy she works with industry associations and consortia in formulating and implementing growth strategies to keep the Wisconsin industries in her portfolio competitive and forward-looking in a rapidly changing global economy and to create customized solutions to meet each industry’s unique needs.


In addition to doing her sector development work Danielle has been active on grant review committees for Wisconsin Fast Forward and the Wisconsin Youth Apprenticeship programs and was a member of the Wisconsin Financial Services Educational Development Committee before becoming the lead sector director for the industry consortium.


Danielle has worked with the Department of Commerce since 2009 and in 2011 made the transition with the organization to WEDC.  Prior to working for WEDC and Commerce, she worked in account management and sales in the insurance industry and in technology-focused areas including software technology and agricultural research and development.
